QUESNEL – It’s known for going above and beyond to help others, but now the Lions Club of Quesnel is getting a boost! The club is receiving a $20,000 Community Gaming Grant from the B.C. Government for its Community Donations Program.

“Our local Lions Club does such a great job of assisting those in our community who need an extra hand, and we thank these hard-working volunteers for their dedication,” says Coralee Oakes, MLA for Cariboo North and Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development. “The holidays just past are a good reminder of the importance of helping those in need, and our Lions Club is a shining example of neighbours helping neighbours.”

These grants were awarded under the Human and Social Services category of the Community Gaming Grant Program, which allows non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues.

In the 2012/13 fiscal year, the B.C. government distributed $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services.

Organizations interested in applying for Community Gaming Grants can find full application information at www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/gaming.
